چکیده

This paper presents a simulation study of Quantum-Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (QD-SOAs) used for wavelength conversion based on Cross-Gain Modulation (XGM). The key characteristics of these devices are presented along with a rate equations model. This model is used to perform XGM simulations. Performance under different operating regimes is analyzed. Near patterning-effect free wavelength conversion is achieved for 40 Gbit/s NRZ signals without detuned filtering.

A Proposal for a New Method of Modeling of the Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

With the advancement of nanoscale semiconductor technology, semiconductor optical amplifiers are used to amplify and process all-optical signals. Inthis paper, with the aim of calculating the gain of quantum dot semiconductor opticalamplifier (QD-SOA), two groups of rate equations and the optical signal propagatingequation are used in the active layer of the device. For t...

Ultrahigh-speed and widely tunable wavelength conversion based on cross-gain modulation in a quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifier.

We present ultrahigh-speed and full C-band tunable wavelength conversions using cross-gain modulation in a quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifier (QD-SOA). In this study, we successfully demonstrated error-free 320-Gbit/s operation of an all-optical wavelength converter (AOWC) using the QD-SOA for the first time. We also demonstrated full C-band tunable operation of the AOWC in the wavelen...

All-Optical Wavelength Conversion at Bit Rates Above 10 Gb/s Using Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

This work assesses the prospects for high-speed alloptical wavelength conversion using the simple optical interaction with the gain in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA’s) via the interband carrier recombination. Operation and design guidelines for conversion speeds above 10 Gb/s are described and the various tradeoffs are discussed. Experiments at bit rates up to 40 Gb/s are presented for ...

Impairments on 40 Gbit/s per Channel WDM Optical System with Wavelength Conversion

High transport capacity optical networks, carrying information as fast as a few terabit by second, are now being developed. In this paper we discuss the major performance limiting factors imposed by each of the network’s subsystems. Optical wavelength conversion in the network’s nodes allows channel cross connecting without blocking probability. Thus, wavelength conversion based on four-wavmixi...

Optical Wavelength Converters Based on Cross Gain Modulation and Cross Phase Modulation in Soa

All optical wavelength conversion is demonstrated at 10 Gbit/s over a wavelength span of 10 nm without any bit loss by the use of Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) in a Mach-Zehnder configuration. These wavelength conversion architectures are implemented by using SOA cross-gain modulation (XGM) and cross-phase modulation (XPM) techniques. We have compared the results of both techniques on t...
